Packing a drone for a weekend away

Packing a drone for a weekend away

A drone can be part of a weekend outdoors without becoming the centre of every plan. A little preparation at home leaves more time for the trip itself.

Check what you actually need

Lay out the aircraft, controller, compatible battery, charging cable and manual. Check the product page and your own package rather than assuming that every accessory is included. Keep small items together, and protect the aircraft and controls from pressure in your bag.

Prepare the battery carefully

Inspect the battery for damage and follow the manufacturer's charging, storage and transport instructions. Protect exposed terminals from short circuits and keep batteries away from loose metal objects. Do not pack a swollen, leaking or damaged battery for use.

Look up the destination

Check the local flying rules and geographical restrictions before deciding where to fly. If travelling by air, ask the airline about its battery requirements in advance; do not assume your usual packing arrangement is accepted.

Keep plans flexible

Weather, crowds or restrictions may mean the drone stays in its bag. That is a sensible decision, not a wasted outing. Choose another way to enjoy the place and save flying for a suitable opportunity.

Before leaving, read our battery care guide and drone rules guide.
